Just in Case You Missed The Worst Call in the History of World Series Winning Moments....

Here it is:

Buck's nonentity of a call begins at around 3:30. Who'd have thought a team winning their first World Series in the past 28 years would have been as exciting as a double to left in the first inning of a midseason Padres-Marlins game.

Oh well. At least Buck didn't berate the Phillies players for their "despicable" celebrations.

(watch this soon before MLB takes it down)

By way of contrast, here are acceptable ways to call World Series winners:

"And the Phillies win the World Series. Let's go down to Ken Rosenthal for an update on where Manny Ramirez may end up in the offseason and then your local news."

That's what he wanted to say.

Harry Kalas' call puts Joe Buck's to shame.

It is always nice to hear the hometown announcer's call of the World Series game. I know I loved Skip Carey's call of the Braves 1995 World Series and when they won Game 7 of the NLCS, they are more involved with the team and actually make the call with emotion in their voice when they are affiliated in some way with the team.

Meh... usually I would agree but sometimes it's nice for the announcers just to shut their trap and let us at home hear the crowd celebrate.

I've completed my analysis of the situation.

Joe Buck has a very cool job. He is the leading play-by-play man for FOX. He's the voice of the World Series. He's one of the most recognizable voices in the current sports media world.

Simultaneously, Joe Buck is the least interesting human being on the planet.

Huh. Go figure.

His call didn't bug me as much as those two PR guys who were running around handing caps and shirts to the players. Geez guys, save it for the clubhouse, and let the guys celebrate. What, we wouldn't know that they were world champs otherwise?

sez larry b.

um....ok....but that's not the main issue with the call.

The main problems with the call are the absolute deadpan tone, the complete lack of play by play leading up to it, and the fact that Buck has done this in every single playoff series he's called in his life.

No one's asking him to go, "AND THE PHILLIES DO IT! THE PHILLIES DO IT! A MIRACULOUS FINISH IN SEPTEMBER, A VICTORY OVER MANNY AND THE DODGERS AND NOW A WORLD SERIES TITLE, THEIR FIRST IN NEARLY THIRTY YEARS. CELEBRATE HARD PHILLY FANS! THE DROUGHT IS OVER."

No one's asking him to do that (although his dad would have, as would Jon Miller, Vin Scully, Bob Costas, or any number of great PBP guys). Just call the fucking game, do some fucking PBP you dickhead, and maybe get excited when a team wins the World Series.

Then again, he's already confirmed he doesn't give a shit about baseball.
