NHL.com, JAVA, and You

A friend of mine in Australia pointed this out to me, and it needs to be mentioned. Today is the NHL Trade Deadline and all eyes are on NHL.com for breaking news. So they do what any league would do - install a countdown clock. That clock counts down to 3PM.

So what's the problem?

It counts down to 3PM. Not 3PM EST, but 3PM.

JAVA programming can be tough, but it would be more work to draw time from your local computer than the NHL server.

That means that last night here, and about 4PM AEST, the Australian NHL Trade Deadline passed. Sadly, no marsupials (presumably) will be lacing it up this season.

I apologize for the Australian screen shot quality. I thought the person who sent it in would have a better concept of computers.

So here's my desktop clock with the countdown. It's counting down to 3PM Central.

This will be the one time that NHL.com might be able to steal traffic away from TSN.ca - which is live streaming Tradecentre for all of the world to see! - and you can't get the countdown clock right? That's pretty much the problem with the NHL in a nutshell.

for the record, it says I posted that message at 9:28am but it's clearly 12:28pm in my (and America's most popular) time zone

Dan-bob, since you "outed" yourself as an English teacher, would it be ok with you if everyone tries to proofread your posts and leaves any mistakes you have made in the comment section? I thought you may enjoy this.

I have also emailed The Big Lead with the information that you "outed" yourself as an English teacher and that I am really Ben Savage...they have not responded yet.

Can we also stop calling it "outed?"

I'm cool with it. Bad grammar is something up with which I will not put.

Great, you will tire of everyone analyzing your grammar within minutes, but take your anger out on whichever subject you are writing about at that time...preferably Jay Mariotti.
