I confess to not being an NHL fan. And honestly, I can't tell if Jarrett really quit the blog or if that was an April Fool's joke. So I hesitate to open my mouth about anything hockey related. But after checking out the standings this morning, just to see what the playoff matchups were, I was excited to see which team had captured the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
Why does that excite me? Start the countdown to Bill Simmons's "I've been a Bruins fan all along, I never left! I'm not a fairweather fan! I promise! Us Boston fans are the best in the world!" article. Because it's definitely coming. I can't wait.
That won't be half as fun as the whiny article when the Bruins get bounced earlier than expected in the Playoffs. I hope with every fiber of that fairly minute portion of my being that likes the NHL that the Canadiens upset the Bruins in the first round and Bill gets to relive his tear-soaked childhood fandom.
ReplyDeleteI am not ready for him to jump back on the bandwagon. That is going to be such a load of crap. I know he will do it though.
ReplyDeleteI just think it is great you don't know whether Jarrett really quit the blog or not.
Wait till Bill finds out about the skate-in-the-crease rule.
ReplyDeleteThat should be entertaining journalism right there.
I think that he'll hedge his bets and "ignore" them in the first two rounds if they advance (by 'ignore' I mean he'll write a paragraph or two on how he pays them no mind until they 'do something special'). And if they're eliminated early, he'll remind us that he's not on the bandwagon until ownership changed hands.
ReplyDeleteIf they win it all, he'll have a lot to say about it, and only give ownership a casual mention (or worse, explain how the ownership "suddenly gets it" and that he's right there at the head of the bandwagon, baby!).
Ho-ckey?
ReplyDeleteBill is not a fair weather fan at all. See, he hated the Bruins because of the ownership which made the team not very good, but now they have the same ownership but the salary cap has made the team good again, so this overrides the ownership being able to screw the team up and they are good now, so he cheers for them.
ReplyDeleteSee, it has nothing to do with whether the team is good or not, it is the ownership, and though the ownership has not changed....ummmm, but the team is good now. See, the difference because he was a hockey orphan and now that the team is good, he is not a hockey orphan anymore.
Well, we got the hockey article...

Look, he's so passionate! I bet he cried after Game 7, when all his little Boston teams lost.
God I hate Simmons
