A blog dedicated to venting frustration about dumb members of the sports media via angry commentary. No, we're not the first guys to do this kind of thing. Still, Jay Mariotti and several other prominent members of the national sports media need to lose their jobs. We want to facilitate that process any way we can. Get an Education
A tip of the cap to current Mets outfielder and former Braves outfielder Jeff Francoeur, who recently said something so stupid that it merited its own post with his picture from the team he used to play for because it's funnier than any picture I could find of him playing for the team he currently plays for.
Regarding last night's Mets-Braves game, in which the Mets kicked around Braves starter Derek Lowe in the 4th inning:
The Mets reeled off 10 hits in the fourth, setting a franchise record for one inning.
Hey, cool, it's not every night you set a franchise record!
"That was a lot of fun," Jeff Francoeur said. "You just keep pounding balls into the gap. The one thing you don't want to do is hit a home run. That's a rally-killer."
Really?
Also a tip of the cap to the old FJM, which first brought to my attention the fact that some people in baseball actually believe homered runs are undesirable events. And a tip of the cap to A-Dave for passing along this tidbit of foolishness.
Yeah, I seem to remember Morgan himself who said that the worst thing you could do in the middle of a rally was to hit a homerun.
ReplyDeleteGee, you'd think the Mets would be a lot better this year; not hitting homeruns is one of their specialties.
Sadly this may be the third dumbest thing Francoeur has said.
ReplyDelete"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it on the scoreboard?"
and
"No, I am absolutely not wearing that. I could care less what they say, I'm not wearing it. There's got to be a way to have a more protective helmet without all that padding. It's brutal. We're going to look like a bunch of clowns out there."
It's even worse when teammates hit home runs back-to-back. It's like killing two rallies all at once!
ReplyDeleteKudos to anonymous for those excellent Francoeur memories!
ReplyDeleteThat guy seriously might be the stupidest man in baseball.
Remember a couple years back, when the Dodgers hit 4 homers in a row against the Padres? They were down 4 runs in the 9th, and hit 3 homers. Wow. That was so many rallies getting killed.
ReplyDeleteUh, 4 homers.
ReplyDeleteI need to lay off the Wild Turkey.
Given his penchant for not being a very good baseball player and for saying incredibly stupid things...I think Jeff Francouer should do the honorable thing and fall on his sword.
ReplyDeleteThe OBP thing I think is a little bit worse though. Only a guy with a sub .300 OBP could try and make an argument it's not important.
There is a reason most Braves fans called him Failcouer.
This might never be seen, but in today's Mets' - Phillies game Eric Bruntlett summoned all of his power and hit a fly ball towards Francouer. Francouer dives and the umpires rule that he dropped the ball.
ReplyDeleteInstead of throwing the ball into the infield and then arguing... Francouer holds onto the ball allowing Bruntett to reach third.
The umpires then reversed the call and ruled he had made the catch, but how stupid do you have to be in order to hold onto the ball in the OF while arguing a call while the play is still live?
