Special Bonus Gregg Easterbrook Self-Contradiction

Don't know how I missed this while making the post that appears below. From that post:

Scoring to pull within one point with 23 seconds remaining at San Diego, Kansas City did the manly man thing by going for the win. About 60 percent of deuce tries succeed, whereas taking the game to overtime is strictly a 50-50 proposition.

About six paragraphs earlier in the exact same TMQ column:

As for running rather than passing, the play was essentially a two-point conversion attempt -- and about 45 percent of passing deuce attempts succeed, versus about 60 percent of rushing deuce attempts.

Unless no one ever passes when going for two, which I'm pretty sure is not the case, something about these two statements does not add up. I'm far too lazy to look up the actual numbers and see which statement (if either) is correct, but there's no way they both are. Gregg Easterbrook: adding layers to his own idiocy on a weekly basis.

  1. How the hell is overtime a 50-50 proposition?

  2. In Easter-math OT is a 50/50 proposition because the coin flip could either land on heads or tails. That is about all I can think about under Easter-math the reasoning would be.
