I know that the meaning of this site is to knock on sportswriters who write about sports as a career, but I couldn't resist this cry baby Padres fan's post on his well read MVN blog.
Matt Holliday never touched the plate and Tim McClellan knows it. He absolutely knows it. He stood back and did not make a call because he knew it. A thought process happened, and then he made the call in slow motion. They are interviewing Matt Holliday on TBS at this very moment and even he won’t say he touched the plate. Quote, “The umpire said I did, so"
First of all, shut the fuck up you bitchy, sore-loser faggot. Second, maybe Holliday didn't know if he touched the plate or not because HE SLAMMED HIS HEAD INTO THE DIRT as he was sliding in. And although I believe that he probably didn't touch the plate after watching the replay, all video evidence is inconclusive. So even if the MLB had a video official with replay rules, it still would have been too close too call.
What’s more, I am flat out, right now accusing Tim McClellan of making a call that, if not downright influenced by a desire to punish Sandy Alderson and the Padres, was at the very least a call that ended a ball game which he had no evidence to make. A call that ended a team’s season. I can’t prove that it was consciously or subconsciously influenced by any bias. But I believe it. See, the non-call was already a call. It was saying he did not touch the plate. Never seen an umpire reverse a call? Guess what? You just did.
Apparantly you don't watch much baseball, because if you did, you'd know that McClellan takes FORRRRRRREVERRRRR to make any call.
And fucking hell... there is no conspiracy against the Padres. Maybe next time take a second or two before you post hyperbole filled shit like this.
ESPN and other idiots like this guy keep stirring the pot (as they always do), trying to make a huge story out of Holliday's slide. This really is a non-story. Please ignore the blown call on Atkins' HR, and the fact that close calls like this happen all the time in baseball. You got screwed, boo hoo hoo.
Shut the fuck up, and go back to watching the Chargers win the AFC west--- oh wait
While I understand the little fru fru Padre fans' outrage, let me explain to the nancy boy San Diegan fanbase that makes up, hopefully, a small percentage of this country, that if it weren't for a blown call on a Rockies "home run" the game would have been over after nine innings.
ReplyDeleteNow go sip a mocha-frutta-latte and worry about your interior decorating, rather than one blown call in a 162 game season
Ah, such nice words. What's a matter? Lack the education to make your point without using homophobic hate-filled language and words more appropriate for a back alley brawl than a sports column?
ReplyDeleteAnd you know so much about me, to be calling me such interesting euphemisms.
I have been a Padres season ticket holder for more than 10 years. I know Tim McClellan just fine, thanks.
Oh, and thanks for boosting my sites visitation. I appreciate it.
Have a wonderful life. Bye bye now, see you later.
I'm impressed that someone with such limited abilities to express himself has the capacity to use a computer.
ReplyDeletefisticuffs! this blog gets more and more exciting every day.
ReplyDeletealso, i think we all need to utilize a little more hyperbole (rich and richard included). things are waaaaay too moderate around here.
ps- being a season ticket holder doesn't make you any better of a fan. i'm not siding with anyone, this is eriz's battle and he can fight it himself. just saying... the whole "I'M A SEASON TICKET HOLDER!!!!" angle doesn't really impress anyone with any sports sense. especially in the context of being familiar with an umpire's style.
i'm impressed that someone who looks like such a dweeby douchebag has the balls to post his own picture next to all his blogger comments. that putting three fingers against your head thing so you look like you're in deep contemplation about the inner-workings of the universe is really slick. not.
ReplyDeleteLarry, the "I'm a season ticket holder" was a direct response to the "Apparantly you don't watch much baseball."
ReplyDeleteBy the way, that is not how you spell "apparently."
...and seriously, don't you guys think I already did enough of the hyperbole thing? *grin*
Just thought I'd point it out. I mean, it IS spelled wrong. Not that I'm perfect that way. That is the editor's job. Oh, wait. That's me too. Damn.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so let's play along: first you're annoyed that I wrote the column with my emotions rather than my analysis. Now, you're pissed because I'm being too serious?
Okay, so you really enjoy using that word. Well, I'm very happy that I could provide you with some more amusement. I'll consider it my good deed for the day. It is certainly making me smile.
Oh... and Holliday still hasn't touched home plate.
Okay, so let's play along: first you're annoyed that I wrote the column with my emotions rather than my analysis.
ReplyDeleteno you were plsin wrong, a sore loser, and the kind of idiotic fan who blames losing the season on a call that honestly could have gone either way.
Now, you're pissed because I'm being too serious?
I'm not pissed. In fact I'm elated that the rockies get to play in october.
You must be one of those english majors with an average IQ who think that liberal use of a thesauras and pointing out spelling errors on a blog will make people believe they are anything but another english major with an average IQ. See I can write long rambling sentences that are hard to follow too.
Actually, I blame "losing the season" more on not having two-thirds of our outfield available and Hoffy getting rocked. I just hate that call. But noticing the places in my rant that would render your rant less meaningful don't make this fun for you. I get it.
ReplyDeleteI have nothing but the highest respect for your ability to write long rambling sentences that are hard to follow.
And I majored in athletics and alcohol. They wrote Business Administration and Marketing on the transcript, but I have the pictures to prove otherwise. My wife wishes I would throw the ones of topless sorority girls out, but I kind of like those best.
Larry, at 41 I'm beyond ever being "hip" again, and I'm not so sure that I ever was. Maybe once, for about 20 minutes in 1990. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteThis by no means is meant to downplay the idea of topless sorority girls.
Why don't you guys just call your blog "Dick and Dick's Blog"
ReplyDeleteor
"Two Dicks, One Blog, No Women"
or
"Two Dicks, One Blown Save, No Playoffs"
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteSooo....how 'bout them Indians?
ReplyDeletecan we just cool it with the homophobia and rip on SD fans for their pretentious yuppyism instead?
ReplyDeleteHey San Diego, be a worse sports town. You got "quasi-jobbed" on an inconclusive play. If mlb has an NFL style replay system, there is no indisuputable evidence to overturn the call of safe. Seriously though SD, go celebrate a Merriman steroid-filled sack, drive your jetta to the beach, play some hack, drink some iced-chai, and cry yourself to sleep knowing that the greatest closer of all time blew your season... TWICE.

because five of us write here. although i do like your last idea, as long as you amend it to "five dicks, one blown save, no playoffs, and lots of sissy comment fights."

now that's my kind of san diego hatin'!
Jeez, I have to say that in my few years surfing around the baseball blogosphere, I've rarely come by stuff like this. It's really ridiculous. Rich's team just loses a huge game on what looks to be a bad call. Can you give him a break?
ReplyDeleteHeck, even if you wanted to "take him on," could you do so without all of the insults and profanity.
I haven't read your site. I'll assume you're trying to be like fjm. But I won't find out. After that post, it would be tough to give this blog a chance.
And how about this line: "ESPN and other idiots like this guy keep stirring the pot (as they always do)..."
Stir the pot? What exactly are you trying to do with this here blog?
Please. Come on, guys. Grow up.
mb-
ReplyDeleteyour points are mostly fair. we're not "trying to be FJM." we have a blog that's stylistically similar to theirs, but we definitely take a different approach on most of our material. it's not a copycat situation at all; more of a "influenced by" situation.
moving on- although i'm a close personal friend of eriz, i can't say i really agree with his approach to this article. i'm not really sure what he was thinking, to be honest. but none of us here are really "in charge", so i don't really feel compelled to take down the post or anything like that. we all write it; if someone writes something like this, we all have to live with it. i realize parts of it reflect poorly on all of us and may end up hurting our readership, but it's eriz's post and he can do with it what he wants. i hope he doesn't make a habit out of this but i also can't make him not do so. meh. it happens. it's just the blogosphere; dumb stuff gets said all the time. that doesn't make it any more right, but it does make it less serious than we're all making it out to be. i guess, to use an epic sports cliche, "it is what it is." eriz said some over the top, unsubtly mean, and pretty questionable stuff. rich defended himself and his blog pretty well. i think that's pretty much all that happened. sorry it bothered you enough to make you not want to return. you're probably not alone in holding that opinion. but i don't think there's much more to the situation.
finally, a blog stirring the pot is entirely different than a major sports new outlet stirring the pot, which is exactly what espn did with this game. rather than focusing on how amazing the game itself was, the majority of attention paid to the events that transpired were focused on "DID HE TOUCH? DOES BASEBALL NEED INSTANT REPLAY?" analysis. kind of annoying. of course, rich and his blog have every right to stir the pot as well. i'm not sure why this offended eriz so much, but... alas... it is what it is.
I can't imagine why someone from Green Bay would be interested in "San Diego hatin'!"
ReplyDeleteCould it be that you are sick of dropping so much money here on your vacations? Hey, Chris, just so you know... I pay for the privilege of this wonderful weather in high cost of living and the inability of most people of normal means to purchase a house due to ridiculous real estate costs. Everyone wants to call us a horrible sports town? Great. Wrap that coat around you tighter and stop out into that blizzard in a couple months.
Besides, you should be grateful to us right now, although in a different sport. If we could tackle, you would be 3-1.
Chris Hart, just for the record, I've never owned a Jetta. I had to give away the pick-up truck when the kids came along, so now I drive an SUV. And I'm not big on any kind of iced coffee or tea latte' thing. Give me a Guinness.
And the last time I cried was when I woke up next to your momma and realized what the hypno-therapy to forget it was going to cost.
BTW, Holliday touched home plate today. In Philadelphia. He still hasn't touched it in Denver.
Damn. Now I look like the immature one.
ReplyDeleteNice post, Larry. Well thought out and on target. I agree with the difference between bloggers and the major news outlets doing the pot stirring. We almost need to be on the extreme side just to be noticed.
For the record, I don't take things all that personally and I've actually had fun with this. I guess I just couldn't resist going to the "your momma" card at the end.
Maybe it was the reminder that the Chargers are more disappointing right now that the last three Star Wars movies...
Larry, thanks for the response. Despite what I said, I kicked around the blog a little and it's probably not a bad read. Maybe I overreated a little, but eriz definitely did and that's what I thought was out of line (well, more the way that he did it ...). I understand with 5 guys it's tough and I'm sure it can be a little difficult at times.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't seem like Rich is seriously offended or anything -- so, I guess, no big deal. It was just so over the top that I couldn't resist throwing up a comment here. And make no mistake, I'm not someone who goes to other peoples blogs and criticizes their work.
Anyhow, keep aiming your stuff at the mainstream guys. We all know that's where it belongs : )
