you must at least this dumb to be a color commentator

earlier tonight- rockies at padres. top of the 9th. rockies lead 2-0. padres color guy mark grant, as reliever doug brocail warms up:

"you know, any time a pitcher is coming into a situation like this, down 1 or 2 in the top of the 9th, i think it should be considered a save situation. you're 'saving' your team from having to score extra runs in the bottom of the 9th."

check out the big brains on mark. so... basically... i'm going to use a slippery slope here- any relief performance is an opportunity for either a hold or a save. better yet any pitcher who doesn't allow any runs during an appearance should get a win! after all, they didn't contribute to a loss, did they? see, even if they were dimwitted enough to think up an idea like this, 99.9% of people are at least capable of filtering it out before it gets from their brain to their mouth. enjoy mark, san diegans. it's sad but you could definitely do a lot worse.

  1. When you're down by 3 in the 9th inning, and the bases are loaded with nobody out, and you're at the plate, it should be a save situation, because hitting a grand slam "saves" the hitters behind you from having to do anything that impacts whether the team is winning or losing.
